Emergency Dentistry in Glen Burnie

Lost a tooth? Have sore teeth? Or can’t sleep at night due to jaw pain? When dealing with your teeth or your child’s dental care, it’s almost impossible to predict or plan for a dental emergency. That’s why we at Millersville Family Dentistry in Glen Burnie offer flexible hours and emergency services. We know that emergencies can occur at any time and that you might find yourself in need of immediate assistance outside of normal business hours. If that happens and you are in need of emergency dental care, you can still get in touch with us when our office is closed and we can accommodate you on the same day.

Broken or chipped teeth

If you’ve broken or chipped your tooth, you should come see our Glen Burnie dental office as soon as possible to prevent further damage or infection of the tooth. We’ll talk with you about possibilities for treatment, which will depend on the level of damage to the tooth. If you’ve chipped off a small piece, we may be able to repair the damage with a filling or bonding. Bonding uses a tooth-colored composite resin that is adhered to the tooth and shaped to look like your natural tooth. If a larger piece breaks off, we may repair the damage with a dental cap or crown, protecting and improving the appearance of the remaining tooth. We may also need to use root canal treatment if the break is large enough to expose the pulp inside the tooth, potentially exposing it to infection or inflammation.

Tooth or jaw pain

Tooth pain or jaw pain is usually caused by tooth decay and can be mild or severe. If the pain lasts for more than one or two days, you should come visit our emergency dental clinic as soon as possible to have it treated. Toothaches usually stem from inflamed pulp inside the tooth, resulting from tooth decay, loose or broken fillings, receding gums or a cracked tooth. We’ll conduct an exam to determine the cause of the pain and discuss your treatment options with you. You may need root canal treatment, a filling replacement or tooth decay removal.

Lost tooth

If you’ve knocked out a tooth, we have a few treatment options. Some people opt not to fill the space left by a missing tooth. For those that do want the space filled, we can provide a denture, bridge or implant. A denture is a removable false tooth that you have to take out to clean. A bridge involves gluing a false tooth to the teeth on either side. And an implant requires placing a titanium screw in the jaw bone and attaching the false tooth to it. We’ll talk with you to determine which treatment is best for you.
